wolf peach (2025)
marimba duet (shared 5.0 octave) · 5 minutes · advanced

wolf peach was written for Erika Lin as part of the Austin Percussion Collective and premieres on June 22, 2025 at Studio A in Austin, TX.

Instrumentation
wolf peach is written for one shared marimba (5.0 octave). One player plays on the accidental side of the marimba, while the other player places on the natural side.

Erika thinks I look like a tomato. The species name of tomato, lycopersicum, means “wolf peach”.

This is the last piece of mine that I will premiere while I live in Austin. It's a strange, bittersweet feeling.

I write a lot about how little moments in life inspire me, musically.

The daily quips and moments I share with my friends—it's weird to think that those moments are now numbered. Of course, they always have been, but now the number grows smaller.

A quote (attributed to Hank Green, a science communicator) lives in my head often these days:

“Good things are not inevitable, they only exist because we make it happen. “

I believe this about all of music, but also about the friendships we create through them. None of music is inevitable. It’s something that humans create.

None of these friendships are either, and I cherish them so too. Even if it's being called a tomato.

I hope that whoever you are, if you are playing this music or simply listening, you can create silly moments like these that you cherish.
